Scott Peterson Motors has been serving customers of the Northern Hills and Black Hills Region for almost four decades. Since the dealership’s opening in 1987, Scott Peterson Motors has expanded several times.
The first expansion came only a few short years after the initial opening. The dealership quickly outgrew its humble lot on the south side of Belle Fourche. In 1991 Scott Peterson Motors relocated to the north side of Belle Fourche, where it remains today.
A strong commitment to customer satisfaction allowed Scott Peterson Motors to expand once again in 2013. In 2013 Scott Peterson Motors acquired the Sturgis Ford dealership from the Jacobsen family. Tragedy struck the building not long after the acquisition when a snow storm collapsed the roof. Building of the current facility near the entrance to Vanocker Canyon in Sturgis began almost immediately afterwards. In addition to the improved facilities, a Dog Park and Frisbee Golf Course were also installed on the grounds.
In 2021 Paul Wareing and his wife Dalena Wareing made an investment into Scott Peterson Motors and became its new managing owners. Prior to taking ownership at Scott Peterson Motors, Paul Wareing and his wife Dalena owned several successful dealerships in Idaho. The Wareings have committed to providing our customers with the same level of excellence that they’ve always received.
However, they didn’t stop there. Amidst and despite all of the uncertainty the world has faced with an ongoing pandemic and supply chain constraints, Scott Peterson Motors continues to expand under the leadership of Paul Wareing. In 2022 Carl’s Trailer Sales in Belle Fourche was acquired, once again adding to the brand’s portfolio.
2023 has brought even more exciting news as we expand yet again. This time further west into Sheridan, WY. Please help us welcome Ed Hammer Chevrolet of Sheridan, WY into our growing family. Tim Kugler, our Sales Manager at Scott Peterson Motors of Sturgis, will be moving to Sheridan, WY where he will transition to a new role as General Manager of that location. Tim, over his tenure at Scott Peterson Motors, has committed to tirelessly upholding our values and he will be brining that same level of commitment to our new location. As we say, “see you later” to Tim, we will also be welcoming Pete Skvicalo and Shawn Tague. Pete Skvicalo is our new Sales Manager at Scott Peterson Motors of Sturgis. Shawn Tague is our new Service Manager at Scott Peterson Motors of Sturgis. Both Pete and Shawn have a wealth of experience in the automotive industry and we will surely benefit from their addition. Pete and Shawn, we are excited that you have become members of the Scott Peterson Motors’ family.
Ultimately, it’s our amazing customers that have facilitated this growth and we are incredibly grateful for it. We are excited to make this announcement and we are looking forward to the future.

2023
Paul Wareing brings Ed Hammer Chevrolet of Sheridan, WY into the brand’s portfolio. A long with this addition, several changes to our Sturgis location were also made. Pete Skvicalo and Shawn Tague join the management team at Scott Peterson Motors of Sturgis. Tim Kugler, previous Sales Manager at Scott Peterson Motors of Sturgis, will be relocating to Sheridan, WY where he will act as the new location’s General Manager.
2022
Carl’s Trailer Sales of Belle Fourche, SD joins the Scott Peterson Motors’ family. Carl’s Trailer Sales, much like Scott Peterson Motors, is well-known for it’s commitment to the community. Carl’s Trailer Sales’ carriers the industries most well-known brands for trailers and truck beds. They even offer custom work if the “off-the-shelf” units don’t meet your needs.
2021

2013
Scott Peterson purchased the Ford franchise in Sturgis from the Jacobsen family. Tragically, a blizzard left record snowfall not long after Scott Peterson took ownership. The snow caved in the roof of the original building and work began almost immediately on the current location located at the mouth of Vanocker Canyon. In addition to the new building; a Dog Park and Frisbee Golf Course were added.
1991
Scott Peterson Motors quickly outgrew it’s original location and more space was needed. It was in 1991 that Scott moved the dealership to it’s current location on the north side of Belle Fourche.
1987
Scott Peterson opened his first location, Scott Peterson Motors, a humble pre-owned car lot on the south side of Belle Fourche. Scott quickly began to experience success thanks to his dedication to providing excellent service to his customers.
